Guidelines for Safeguarding at Ringing Meetings

Guidelines for District Officers
Organisers should bear in mind the following points when arranging ringing meetings:
It is preferable for the local Tower Captain or other representative of the church to attend the ringing session to deal with safety and security in the tower/ringing area.
The District Ringing Master should always organise the ringing and if he/she is unable to attend ensure that appropriately qualified deputies are appointed to supervise the event.
Ensure that at least two responsible adults attend at all times. This must take into account the number of towers open, and any arrangements for tea in a church hall. The duty of care extends to all facilities during the ringing event.
Be mindful that if visiting ringers bring children under the age of 18, the Association, as well as the parents or guardians, has a responsibility for them. This includes health and safety issues too.
Those in charge should ensure that everyone leaves the premises safely and try to ensure that children are safely accompanied away from the event. If it is necessary, or has been agreed by parents, to transport children from one venue to another, or to take them home after the event, try to ensure to have two adults in the car. Children should travel in the back seats.
